Heating & Cooling
A seasonal HVAC checklist for your home
Before a stretch of hot or cold weather, a few basic checks can help you spot problems early. These checks do not replace professional maintenance, and none require you to remove an equipment panel or work on electrical or gas connections.
Start with airflow and controls
- Inspect your air filter and follow the equipment manufacturer's replacement guidance. Use the specified size and filter type.
- Keep supply vents and return grilles clear of furniture, rugs and stored items.
- Check the thermostat's mode, schedule and batteries if it uses them.
- Keep loose leaves and debris away from the outdoor unit without touching its wiring or internal parts.
Notice what changes
Uneven room temperatures, weak airflow, repeated starts and stops, or new noises are worth noting. If you smell gas, leave the area without operating switches and contact your gas utility or emergency services from a safe location. For routine concerns, explore our heating service and AC maintenance and repair options. A technician can check operation and help determine whether the issue needs maintenance or repair.
